![]() Candidate for Ketchikan Borough Assembly 3-year term seat - three seats open Published:
Name: Seth S. Krasnow
About Yourself - Background: Born and raised in Farmingdale, NY. Graduated from Farmingdale S.H.S. in 1972. Received an AAS Degree in Marketing from SUNY @ Morrisville and a BPS in Marketing/ Public Management from SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, NY. Then I tended bar for about 12 years including a 3 year run in Aspen, CO and some time spent in the Hamptons on Long Island. After a 8 month stint with a touring company of the Tony Award winning Broadway show Big River, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , (I was the concessionaire, acting wouldn't show up on my resume for another 14 years) I went back and completed my flight training. Then the money started to roll in as I became a flight instructor working on the west coast of Florida making 6 bucks an hour. In 1989 I moved to Alaska to be a "bush pilot'. I got a job working in the interior of Alaska for MarkAir Express, in such garden spots as Bethel, Galena, Dillingham and King Salmon. Along the way I found out there hadn't been a real bush pilot in Alaska for the past twenty years! From there it was off to the sunny Caribbean for some warm weather flyin'. Then back to Alaska in 1992 to a place I never heard of...Ketchikan, where it was described to me as a place where there were big trees and it rained a little! I came up as a seasonal pilot for Ketchikan Air Service which kept me here for a few years , then over to Taquan Air for a few years and then in 1988 became a City of Ketchikan employee as a EMS Specialist for the Ketchikan Fire Department. This job was later reclassified as Firefighter/Medic. I am one of 4 Nationally Registered and State licensed Paramedics working for and serving the citizens of this fair city and borough.
List any experience that qualifies you for this elected position:
State at least 3 reasons why you are seeking a seat on this elected body.
Why should the voters elect
or re-elect you?
List local, regional and/or
state-wide issues that you believe are a high priority and state
your position on each.
Economy - everyone's for a good strong economy, just don't try to bolster the economy with my money on projects we know very little about....bowl factory, veneer plant, ship yard......
General Questions: How do you determine your position on an issue? I know what's right...However I'm always willing to listen to what other people know is right. Besides this isn't about my position...as corny as this sounds this position is about what the 'COMMUNITY" or at least a majority of the community wants. I think we need to take the "i" out of community and put another "U" in it because this is not about "i", it's about what 'YOU" want!! But sometimes I may have to stand up and tell "you" what "you" want....
What would compel you to
change your position?
If a dozen people speak
at a public meeting on a controversial agenda item
Where would you most likely obtain more information on agenda items? Staff recommendations; newspaper articles; letters to the editor; the internet...
Who would you most likely
talk to prior to making a decision that affects the entire community?
How would you deal with people whose views oppose your beliefs who want to talk to you about an agenda item or issue? Easy, First I would deprogram them and reeducate them to the correct way of thinking...Mine. However, if the force were great enough they might be able to reeducate me. Opposing beliefs are good, it's the basis for open discussion. Decisions should be made on the basis that the results will be in the best interest of the majority of the people, we'll convince the remainder one at a time...
In a public meeting discussion,
what would you likely do?
Comments - Statement: If you talk to me ar heard me speak and agree with more of my ideas or positions than you disagree with we're on the right track. I'm not your run of the mill candidate. I'm like most of you. I'm a union working guy, who works more than 1 job, I 'm partners with a bank and together we own a house, like most of you. I have just as much of a stake, not necessarily "at" stake in this community as many of you. I think we are going to face some hard times ahead. I want the Borough to act financially responsible, as if they were spending their "own" money. You the People can have whatever you want...AS LONG AS YOU"RE WILLING TO PAY FOR IT! DON'T FORGET TO VOTE !!!!!
