According to a KIA news release, a temporary modification to the second floor will place the screening checkpoint near the elevator and emergency stairwell access points. The main stairwell will be an exit for passengers deplaning at gate B. Anyone meeting arriving passengers should wait at the baggage claim area.

Lance Mertz who prepared the news release stated the new security requirements make it necessary for passengers to process through the screening checkpoint much earlier than before. The current screening checkpoint and waiting area is too small and has no restrooms, making it impractical for the longer dwell times passengers are experiencing. Under the new change, once passengers have cleared screening they have the entire second floor available while waiting to board the aircraft, including the restrooms, snack bar, lounge, gift shop, and coffee shop.

This temporary modification will eventually be replaced in the terminal renovation project. Under the renovation, a second elevator will be installed near the main stairwell, and the screening checkpoint will be located near the access points for the main stairwell and new elevator.
