Coast Guard officials are looking into the sinking of a 100-foot fishing vessel with three people on board that happened early Friday morning.

The Coast Guard Communication center in Juneau received an urgent distress call from the fishing vessel Arctic Sun crewmembers at about 2:30 a.m. stating that they were sinking fast near Ratz Harbor in Clarence Strait about 40 miles north of Ketchikan.

The three crewmembers managed to evacuate into a 16-foot power skiff. Two vessels in the area, the Norwegian Sky and the Silver Bay 6, proceeded to the stricken boat's aid. The Norwegian Sky arrived first on scene and recovered the crewmembers of the Arctic Sun. The Norwegian Sky then transported the crewmembers to Ketchikan. No injuries were reported. The Silver Bay 6 recovered the skiff.

Coast Guard officials are investigating this incident.
