Corporon stated in the release that immediately following the meeting, at the urging of Senator Frank Murkowski, Borough representatives met with Denny Bschor, Regional Forester; Steven Brink, Deputy Regional Forester; Tom Puchlerz, Forest Supervisor, and other foresters in order to pursue Senator Murkowski's plan to ensure a wood supply for the recently rescued veneer plant - Gateway Forest Products - and the four surviving sawmills in Southeast Alaska. "Ten-year timber sales, as well as other methods of meeting the supply needs of our wood products businesses, were proposed as long-term solutions," Corporon wrote. The group agreed to meet again in one to two weeks in order to hammer out a proposal that would withstand all the challenges that would accompany such a solution, according to today's release. Corporon concluded his remarks by saying that Ketchikan Borough Mayor Jack Shay thanked Senator Murkowski and his staff for all the support and hard work on behalf of the citizens of Southeast Alaska.
