Ketchikan 8 - Juneau 7: Teams Face-Off Thursday
In Final Game Of District II Senior League Championship

Monday - Ketchikan/Sitka:

Monday afternoon the Ketchikan Senior League All Stars stopped the Sitka All Stars in the 5th inning when the ten run rule was invoked in the last game of the Round Robin in the District 2 All Star Tournament in Petersburg. Ketchikan then advanced to play Juneau for the first game of the District 2 Championship.

Excitement stirred in the first inning with Brandon Eubanks, pitching for Ketchikan, striking out two batters and an out on a hit to center field.

Ketchikan's Brandon Pilcher bagged a home run, B. J. Pahang and Brian Brown walked and Kyle Howe brought Pahang home on a hit past second base. Casey Bass struck out. Ricky Grams and Boyd Runnion walked, loading the bases. The next Ketchikan batter, Austin

Wolf, was tagged out on his hit to first base. With two outs and the bases loaded, Paul Benguard's hit took him to first and advanced the runners bringing home a run. The bases were still loaded when Brandon Pilcher came back up to bat and hit a grand slam home run and the Ketchikan team racked up four more runs. The first inning ended when B. J. Pahang was struck out with Ketchikan leading 8 to Sitka's 0.

In the top of the second inning, all three Sitka batters were struck out by Brandon Eubanks bringing the Ketchikan batters up. During the second inning Ketchikan scored five more runs to end the second inning 15 to 0.

During the top of the third inning Sitka staged a rally scoring 5 runs but were unable to hold Ketchikan back during the bottom of the third when Mike Meacock hit a home bringing in Ricky Grams. Paul Benguard hit a double to center and came home on a hit to center by B.J. Pahang.

In the top of the 4th inning Sitka scored four more runs. At the bottom of the 4th Ketchikan picked up another run with a hit by Casey Bass.

At the top of the 5th inning Sitka scored one run; however, the game was called by the 10 run game rule after Ketchikan's B. J. Pahang hit a home run - the final score, Ketchikan 20, Sitka 10.

Tuesday - Ketchikan/Juneau:

The Ketchikan All Stars met Juneau for a rematch Tuesday evening in Petersburg in the first game of the District 2 Championship. Ketchikan had earlier defeated the Juneau All Stars in the first game of the Round Robin held last Saturday and Juneau was ready for this game.

Juneau took early control of the game in the first inning with two runs followed by two more runs in both the second and third innings.

In the top of the 4th inning, Juneau scored another run with Ketchikan's Brandon Eubanks scoring one run during the bottom of the 4th.

Ketchikan held Juneau to no runs during the top of the 5th, but was also held to no runs by Juneau. In the 6th inning Ketchikan managed to hold Juneau to no runs and scored two runs.

During the 7th inning Ketchikan held Juneau to no runs but was unable to rally any runs. The game ended with the final score - Juneau 7, Ketchikan 3.

Wednesday - Ketchikan/Juneau:

At first it looked dismal that the 2002 Ketchikan Senior League All Stars would be able to stay in the running for the District 2 Championship when they met the Juneau All Stars for a rematch Wednesday evening in Petersburg. At the bottom of the 3rd inning Juneau was leading 5 runs to 0 when Ketchikan sprang into action and staged a come back rally scoring 4 runs - two runs from a home run hit by Kyle Howe and three more runs from a grand slam home run hit by Ketchikan's Nate Norton.

During the 4th inning Ketchikan held Juneau to no runs and picked up another run in the bottom of the 4th from a hit by Brandon Eubanks.

Juneau came back in the 5th with one run and held Ketchikan in the bottom of the 5th.

Ketchikan held Juneau to no hits in the 6th inning and ended the game by holding Juneau to no hits in the top of the 7th. The final score - Ketchikan 8, Juneau 7.

Ketchikan and Juneau face off again Thursday evening at 5:00 pm for the final game of the District 2 Championship. The winner will advance to represent District 2 in the State Senior League Tournament.
