Alaska Department of Public Safety Honors Those Who Serve
Nagy, Beck, Sharkey, Charlton & Piscoya of Ketchikan Receive Awards

Hard, Beck, GodfreyLast Friday the Department of Public Safety held their annual award's banquet to honor the men and women, both civilian and commissioned, who serve in the department.

Highlights of the evening included brief speeches from Lt. Governor Fran Ulmer and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Glenn G. Godfrey.

During the ceremony, Senate President Rick Halford presented citations honoring James Moen and Hans Roelle. Troopers Moen and Roelle were killed in the line of duty in 2001.

Several Department of Public Safety employees from Ketchikan were among those statewide to be honored. The Division of Fish and Wildlife Protection honored Boat Officer Lawrence Nagy and Trooper Anthony Beck of Ketchikan. Nagy received the A Detachment Civilian Employee of the Year Award and Beck received the A Detachment Trooper of the Year Award.

The Division of Alaska State Troopers presented the A Detachment Civilian Employee of theCrawford, Sharkey, Godfrey Year Award to Julie-Dee Sharkey of Ketchikan and awarded a Purple Heart to Sgt. Lonny Piscoya of Ketchikan for injuries received on October 31, 2001 in Ketchikan. Trooper A.J. Charlton of Ketchikan received a Commendation for Honorable Service from the Division of Alaska State Troopers for action on November 19, 2001 in Ketchikan.

Awards were presented to those honored by the directors of each division along with Commissioner Godfrey.

The Department of Public Safety's annual award's banquet is an independently funded function. The banquet was held in Anchorage.
